Compassionate care for Mental Health

If you feel that you may be affected by a mental health condition, speaking to a GP is a really good place to start. Mental health conditions are treatable, and the earlier you seek support, the better. Mental health is about wellness rather than illness – it’s about finding ways to achieve your best possible mental health and full potential in life. The doctors will work with you to help you achieve this.

How can a doctor help you?

In a private consultation, a doctor will assess your current situation and provide personalised, confidential advice. This may include strategies to help you manage your stress levels or sleep concerns, ways to achieve a sustainable work/life balance, or guidance to help you get through a rough patch.

Other common mental health conditions in patients may include:

  • anxiety

  • depression and insomnia

  • suicide prevention

  • self-harm and self-injury

  • phobias like flight or social anxiety

  • pregnancy and early parenthood

  • low immune system

  • stress management

  • grief and loss

  • drug and alcohol addiction

In some instances, the doctors at SSMC may recommend a range of different treatment options, including seeing a mental health specialist, such as a psychologist or social worker, and in some cases medication options will be discussed.

Mental Health Care Plans

A mental health care plan may include access to a private psychologist, therapist, social worker, or mental health nurse.  A mental health care plan written by a GP can include up to 10 sessions with a Medicare rebate that can be claimed with a psychologist or clinical psychologist and  personalised for your own needs.  Call our friendly team or click below to book a mental health care plan appointment online, please note these are 30 minute appointments.
